INJECTING personality into your rental home

I have been fortunate enough over the years to have experience both renting a home and also owning my own home. Obviously when you own your own home, you can do whatever you like to it and it doesn’t matter. But when you are renting you are far more restricted to what you can do with in four walls. I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to feel like you're living in a space that doesn't quite feel like your own. Whether you're renting an apartment, a house, or a room, it can be challenging to inject your personal style into a space that you don't own.

That’s why I have written this post, to inspire you with creative ways that you can add your own flair to your rented property without breaking any lease agreements or losing your bond. Here are a few of my favourite tips and tricks.

Modern Mediterranean Living Mood Board

One of the easiest ways to add texture and interest to a room is by playing with textiles. Throw pillows, blankets, and curtains can all be swapped out easily and inexpensively, allowing you to switch up your style whenever the mood strikes.

Get creative with your walls

If you're not allowed to paint your walls or put up wallpaper, there are still plenty of ways to add color and personality to your space. More and more removable wallpapers are available today that actually do leave the walls unharmed. Add some temporary personality to your walls with removable wallpaper. You can also use temporary wall decals, which come in a wide variety of designs and styles! Yes I know what you’re thinking, a decal of Disney characters wasn’t really what you had in mind. But in all seriousness there a loads of stylish wall decals out there you just need to go looking.

If you're feeling really adventurous, you can even create a gallery wall of your favorite artwork or photos. Use adhesive strips to hang your pictures, and you'll have a personalized and eye-catching feature in your room.

Play with textiles

One of the easiest ways to add texture and interest to a room is by playing with textiles. Throw pillows, blankets, and curtains can all be swapped out easily and inexpensively, allowing you to switch up your style whenever the mood strikes.

Look for fabrics that complement your existing color scheme or add a pop of color or pattern to your space. Mixing and matching textures and patterns can create a layered and dynamic look that will make your space feel unique and personalised.

Upgrade your lighting

Lighting can have a huge impact on the look and feel of a room, so it's worth investing in some stylish and functional lighting options. Add some table lamps or floor lamps for a cozy and inviting vibe. Look for plug-in options that can be easily installed and removed. you could even consider plug in wall lights. Experiment with different types of bulbs to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Switch out cool light bulbs for warm for an instant homely feel.

Add some greenery

Plants are an easy and affordable way to add life and color to your space. Not only do they look great, but they also help to purify the air and improve your mood.

Look for low-maintenance plants that are easy to care for, such as snake plants, spider plants, or pothos. Group plants together in pots that complement each other, to create a mini indoor garden.

Don't forget about the details

Sometimes it's the small details that can make the biggest difference. Look for ways to inject your personality into your space by adding decorative accessories, such as vases, candle holders, or decorative bowls.

You can also swap out your cabinet hardware or drawer pulls for something that fits your personal style. These small changes can add up to a big impact and make your space feel like your own.

Remember, just because you're renting doesn't mean you can't create a space that feels like home. With a little creativity and some smart design choices, you can transform your rental property into a personalised and inviting space that you'll love coming home to.
