Summers coming! spruce up your outdoors with these tips

I don’t know about you but I can definitely feel the change of season here in Brisbane. The days are starting to get longer and the air temperatures are rising. Before we know it Summer will be here!

So in anticipation of warmer weather, it's time to dust off the cobwebs and start thinking about sprucing up your outdoor living space. Whether you have a small balcony or a large backyard, creating an outdoor oasis can provide a relaxing and enjoyable escape right at home, so you’ll never have to leave!

Here are some tips to get you started designing an outdoor living space that will be the envy of your neighbours:

  1. Define the Space

Start by defining your outdoor living space. Whether it's with a rug, a pergola, or a privacy screen, creating a defined space will make it feel like an extension of your home. Consider the size and shape of your space and how you want it to function. Do you want it to be a place for dining, lounging, or both?

  2. Shelter from the elements

The last thing you want is a beautiful outdoor space that you could spend hours enjoying but due to the lack of shelter and protection from the elements you can’t. So consider shade from the sun and protection from the rain. Consider permanent or removable roof structures like opening and closing louvres, shade sails, or a pergola with a creeping vine. These will all add functionality to this space so you get get loads of use out of it.

  3. Incorporate Comfortable Seating

Comfortable seating is essential for any outdoor living space. From outdoor sofas to lounge chairs to dining sets, make sure you choose pieces that are comfortable, durable, and weather-resistant. Consider the style and material of the furniture and how it complements the overall look and feel of your space.

  4. Add Some Greenery

Adding some greenery to your outdoor living space can provide a refreshing and calming atmosphere. Whether it's with potted plants, a vertical garden, or a garden bed, incorporating plants into your design can also help to define the space and add visual interest. At the end of the day you are outdoors so greenery is a must have element here.

  5. Incorporate Lighting

Outdoor lighting is crucial for both safety and ambiance. From string lights to lanterns to path lights, there are plenty of options to choose from. Consider the style and scale of the lighting fixtures and how they complement the overall design of your space.

  6. Add Some Personal Touches

Finally, don't forget to add some personal touches to your outdoor living space. Whether it's with throw pillows, a colourful umbrella, or some outdoor art, adding some personal touches can make your space feel like a true extension of your home.

By following these tips, you can design an outdoor living space that is both functional and beautiful, and provides a perfect retreat to enjoy the great outdoors.
